Doctorate Program
The PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering requires advanced study and original research in civil engineering, with at least two years of full-time graduate work beyond the MSCE, a minimum of 24 quarter credits of coursework (civil engineering and supporting electives), a comprehensive examination, and a dissertation representing an original contribution to knowledge. The Ph.D. can usually be completed in about three years after the master’s degree. A student applying to the Ph.D. program will normally be required to have completed an M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering or a closely related field. Applicants need to develop a relationship with a faculty member who agrees to be the official Ph.D. advisor.
Master's Program
The Master of Science (M.S.) and Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Civil and Environmental Engineering provide students with the technical and professional knowledge necessary to seek creative solutions to complex problems in the civil engineering field. Flexibility is achieved by designing programs of study to meet individual needs. Both degrees can be completed in 1½ to 2 years.
Research Areas
Faculty in CEE are actively engaged in local, national and international research issues that affect the infrastructure of society and the environment. There are many opportunities for well-qualified graduate students to work with faculty on research projects. The following are emphasis areas of the faculty.
