AnnouncementsiStar Lab Testing Most all of us have been to the iStar lab and have seen some very large beams, columns and testing mechanisms, yet many have never seen the testing done. Friday, November 20 at 3pm is our chance. Eccentrically braced frames in buildings typically include the use of shear links, which are sections of beams that yield and plastically deform in shear, to provide a stiff and ductile lateral load resisting system. This experiment will test the performance of a modified shear link, which includes additional stiffener components both perpendicular and parallel to the web. These stiffeners are necessary to delay the onset of web buckling during inelastic link deformation.
Please wear closed toe shoes. Sign up on clipboard outside of EB Room 385. Show Up outside SB2 on the side with the Starbucks at 3pm. Please note: We're limited to 10 people.
The test is running all day and we are hoping to catch the time when failure occurs. There is the gamble that failure will or will not occur while we are there.

All available admission slots have been filled. No more undergraduate applications will be accepted for the 2009-2010 academic year.
